Peter Sagan (SL)

The 25-year old Slovak champion is a phenomenon on the bike – and rightly so. He has won the green sprinter’s jersey in the Tour for four years in a row, while taking home 8 individual stage wins in Grand Tours and numerous one-day races, since he turned professional in 2010.

The 25-year old Slovak champion is a phenomenon on the bike – and rightly so. He has won the green sprinter’s jersey in the Tour for four years in a row, while taking home 8 individual stage wins in Grand Tours and numerous one-day races, since he turned professional in 2010.

Peter got his World Tour debut at the age of 19 on Liquigas, where he quickly rose to prominence by winning two stages at Paris-Nice two months after his first race. Since then and until the beginning of 2015, the Slovak champion has won no less than 84 victories in total.

Peter Sagan matured during the 2015 season, first winning the Tour of California, where he showed his climbing skills. The Slovak champion continued his stranglehold on the Tour de France green jersey and was able to secure it with two stages to go. Sagan wore the green jersey at the Champs Elysées podium for the fourth consecutive time.

However, his time was yet to come. Representing his home nation of Slovakia, and with just a handful of fellow riders, he was against some of the most powerful cycling nations of the world at the UCI World Championship in Richmond, Virginia. Sagan waited for the final lap of the 261km race and then attacked on the steep cobbled climb on 23rd street. He then used his descending skills to distance the peloton and powered up the final climb of the Richmond circuit to win alone.
